Technology and Curriculum Integration
The ISTE/NETS standards for teachers and students reflect the new paradigm shift and a generation of digital students. The standard or indicators for technology literate students for grades 6-8 are very comprehensive. I think that these standards are reasonable yet at the same time expecting more advanced knowledge of systems, software and ethical guidelines then any generation before. In other words these digital students will far exceed the technological know how of their elders. We, as teachers must combat this, by holding ourselves to the same standards, of technology literacy, as our students. As a teacher it is important to understand technology and its operations as well as design effective learning conditions appropriate to the desired outcome. By implementing technology into all areas, from classroom management to assessments, you will be able to use technology in a productive manner. While creating lessons that are technology rich, we must keep in mind the differences in our students and their access to different types of technology. It is important to facilitate equal access while promoting ethical practices only.

Instructional Systems design (ISD)

Many learning experiences are unintentional. Education applies to all areas in which people learn and instruction applies to areas in which people are intentionally lead to learn. Although teaching and instruction are almost interchangeable, teaching usually refers to a human aspect where as instruction can refer to experiences facilitated by other means such as computers, audio-visual devices and textbooks. ISD is a graphically organized set of instructional guidelines that encompass not only the human aspects but all domains that will have an impact on the learner.
There are three major ISD models, all which share common elements: analysis, development, and evaluation. Each model is geared toward particular uses. ADDIE model is a broad model for creating instructional products. The ADDIE model, named for the steps, Analysis, Design, Implementation, and Evaluation, is my favorite model because I find it to be straight forward and logical with assessments continuously occurring through out the process. The Dick & Carey, a reductionist, model is used for curriculum and program design. It works by breaking down the instruction into smaller components. Similar to ADDIE, however there exist additional developmental and revision steps before the design and conduct. Kemp’s model is used for large scale instruction with multiple people and resources. It shows a logical continuous cycle of planning though assessment with out a predetermined starting point.
